The Edgewood Neighborhood Plan was adopted in August 1997. Edgewood is an older neighborhood in northeast Lakewood bounded by Sheridan and Wadsworth Boulevards, and Colfax Avenue north to the Lakewood city limits. The neighborhood is home to everything from horse properties to mobile home parks, from wood frame bungalows to large apartment complexes, from used car dealers to a medical center campus, and from Lakewood's biggest tourist attraction (Casa Bonita Restaurant) to a 300-bed correctional facility. Edgewood residents believe their neighborhood to be a special place to live and they are proud of their community. The main focus of the Edgewood Neighborhood Plan is in promoting safety, preserving the neighborhood's unique qualities and features, increasing opportunities for all community members, and enhancing and improving the appearance of the Edgewood neighborhood. The Edgewood Neighborhood Plan identifies four main categories for addressing the neighborhood's concerns: cars and pedestrians, community resources and activities, crime and safety, and land use and neighborhood appearances.
