West Colfax Avenue Action Plan

The West Colfax Avenue Action Plan was adopted as a Comprehensive Plan Amendment by the Lakewood Planning Commission and approved by City Council in December of 2005. The Action Plan will serve as a guide for redevelopment efforts along West Colfax Avenue.

The West Colfax Avenue Action Plan was developed by the Colfax Corridor Advisory Committee, which was appointed in April of 2004 by Mayor Burkholder and was chaired by Councilor Bob Murphy. Over the course of 18 months, the Committee, met approximately twice a month to learn about issues related to Colfax Avenue and to develop a Vision Statement, Guiding Principles and Action Steps to guide the future development of Colfax Avenue. The Committee was comprised of business owners, commercial property owners, and neighborhood representatives. Through this collaborative planning effort, a new vision has been established for West Colfax Avenue.

West Colfax Avenue Action Plan Vision Statement
As a celebration of the historic and eclectic character of north Lakewood, Colfax Avenue will be a place that unites neighborhoods and provides a variety of vibrant businesses and housing opportunities for generations to come.

The Plan is based on seven Guiding Principles, which include:

	Achieve the Vision.
	Make it Sparkle.
	Make it Vibrant.
	Maximize Transit.
	Invest Wisely.
	Value History.
	Get the Zoning Mix Right.

Key Action Steps related to the seven Guiding Principles include: updating and revising the Colfax Avenue Overlay Zone District, (in progress), forming a business improvement district, assisting property and business owners with façade improvements, developing events such as the Colfax Marathon to market the corridor and build excitement around the vision for West Colfax Avenue.

The Committee members and members of the West Colfax Community Association understand that implementation of the Action Plan and the Vision for West Colfax Avenue will require creative and unique partnerships and funding mechanisms.
