Domestic Violence

Misdemeanor-level domestic violence cases are heard in Lakewood Municipal Court.  Domestic violence is defined in Lakewood Municipal ordinance 1.16.080(G) as an act or threatened act of violence upon a person with whom the actor is or has been involved in an intimate relationship.  Domestic violence also includes any other crime against a person or against property, including an animal when used as a method of coercion, control, intimidation or revenge directed against a person with whom the actor is or has been involved in an intimate relationship.  If you are a victim of domestic violence, you can contact the Lakewood Police Department Victim Assistant Unit for assistance.  You may also contact the Municipal Prosecutor's Office for assistance if a case has been established in Lakewood Municipal Court.
