Bear Creek Lake Park and the City of Lakewood Regional Parks Division offer a wide range of programs and events at all of our locations. Find out what's happening and get outside and visit us at Bear Creek Lake Park, William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain and the Bear Creek Greenbelt.

Earth Day Volunteer Project

Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering at Bear Creek Lake Park! Join us and get involved in a few projects throughout the park. A lite breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Frog Returns Full Moon Hike

The darkness of night provides a unique backdrop for a hiking adventure, so leave those flashlights at home hone your night vision as a park naturalist guides you along the trails of Bear Creek Lake Park and the surrounding green spaces. Keep in mind each one will average an hour and a half of walking and observing. We will meet at the Stone House. Don't forget to dress appropriately for Colorado's everchanging weather. No dogs please.


Ages: All ages

Cost: $2/person, park entrance fee is waived.

Registration closes the Monday before the hike.

Trout Fishing Tournament

Bear Creek Lake Park Trout Fishing Tournament

Cast your line and reel in the big one! This is a 2-person team tournament that will take place on Bear Creek Reservoir with 25 team slots available for watercraft and 25 team slots available for shore fishermen. Rainbow or Brown Trout are the target fish and there will be cash prizes awarded for first, second and third place! This event is $60/team. Registration required by May 11. Check in at 5:30am. One person in the team must be 16 years old. All state fishing rules and regulations apply and will be enforced.

Wildflower Hike at William F. Hayden Park

Trailhead at the intersection of W Alameda Pkwy and W. Florida Dr.

Join the park naturalist and staff of the Bureau of Land Management as we explore the spring floral display of the park. Bring comfortable hiking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. No dogs please. We will meet at the trailhead at Florida and Alameda. Registration required.

Weed 'em Out! Volunteer Service Project

Join park staff and other area experts to learn about the threats associated with invasive weed species and the efforts being taken to combat them. Volunteers will then help staff remove some of these invaders from Belmar Park. Lite breakfast and lunch will be provided.

National Trails Day

National Trails Day is the country's largest celebration of trails. NTD 2018 will take place on Saturday, June 2nd at William Frederick Hayden Park at Green Mountain in partnership with the Colorado Mountain Bike Association. Lite Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The project will run from 8 am-noon. 


Parking will be at the park trail head located at Alameda Parkway and Florida.


Volunteers will help finish new trail surfacing on the Green Mountain Trail, along with various trail maintenance tasks. This will be a very arduous project with a significant hike to the project site, up to 1.5 miles.

Let's Go Fishing!

The first full weekend in June has been designated as no license required fishing in the state of Colorado. Come and join Bear Creek Lake Park staff for this great child-geared program to learn the basics of fishing. We will learn about types of fish, bait, fishing ethics and how to catch the big one! Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring water. Park pass required.

This annual family adventure race involves teams of two completing a lake crossing, mountain bike course and a run. There are two categories: adult with a child age 6-11 and adult with a child age 12-16. Participants will receive an event shirt. Park pass required
