Lets Go Fishing!

The first full weekend in June has been designated as no license required fishing in the state of Colorado. Come and join park naturalists at the Stone House Shelter and learn the basics of fishing. We will learn about types of fish, bait, fishing ethics and how to catch the big one.

Leave No Trace and Summer Safety

Celebrate National Get-Out Doors day with Leave No Trace and summer safety practices. We will learn how to minimize our impact on the environment when recreating outdoors, as well as important safety rules to follow when spending time outside this summer!

Bear Creek Lake Park Trout Fishing Tournament

Cast your line and reel in the big one at the Bear Creek Lake Park trout fishing tournament! The target fish for this event will be rainbow or brown trout, and the winner will be determined by weight. This is a 2-person team tournament that will take place on Bear Creek Reservoir with 25 team slots available for watercraft and 25 team slots available for shore fisherman. There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place. All boats will require a mandatory boat inspection. Check in is at 5:30 am; the tournament begins at 6:30 am.
$60/team (includes park entrance fee)

Scat and Tricky Tracks


Join a park naturalist and discover how to identify wildlife by the clues they leave behind – scat and tracks. Participants will learn how to find and identify these clues to tell the story of where they have been, what they eat and maybe even where they are going.

Live birds of prey and night sky observation


Join us at the Learning Circle Amphitheater and celebrate the Summer Solstice with live birds of prey and a full moon! Hawk Quest will reveal the importance of raptors and their role in the ecosystem. After the presentation view the “Strawberry” Full Moon through telescopes and enjoy gazing into the night sky. No dogs please. $2/ person; park entrance fee is waived.

Experience the quiet beauty of Bear Creek Lake Park at night and enjoy an adventure under the magic of the full moon. Park naturalists will have telescopes available for viewing the “Thunder” full moon. Bring a blanket
or lawn chair if you’d like to sit back, relax and soak up the stars. No dogs please. We will be meeting at the northeast parking lot just past the Mountain View shelter.
Park entrance fees apply. Cost of program is free.

Wild Wings (Live Birds of Prey) 


Raptors of the Rockies is a program that concentrates on birds of prey found in the Rocky Mountain region, paying special attention to those birds found in Colorado. In this interactive program, we explore the tools and adaptations that different raptors use to be successful in the wild. The program features live birds – a hawk, an owl, and a falcon – all species that are found here in Colorado.
