GAME NIGHT TOURNAMENTS

Summer open bowling league.  Join us for the fun, friends & 10 pin strikes.

Cost:   1 game - $3
            2 games - $4.50
            3 games - $6
Includes all equipment. Payment due at bowling alley each Saturday you choose to participate.

SIGN LANGUAGE:
Communication with people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing impaired play a vital role in today’s society. Learn the fundamental skills of Signed English and information about the deaf community.  American Sign Language will also be discussed.  Intermediate classes are a continuation of the beginning class.  Prerequisite is the beginning class or the equivalent.

Get out of the house and explore the Saturday night life!  We will enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant and then go see a movie.  (G - PG13)

Its time to show off your American Idol skills! Shake your booty and sing your heart out at our Karaoke Party! With dinner and prizes this party will be nothing short of a blast.  Dinner will be included.

RECREATION AND LEISURE CLASS

These classes are designed to provide basic and life-long leisure skills for the individuals who are participating in them. Come and join us for a fun educational experience and develop a new skill. All classes must have a minimum of 5 students to take place.
Ages: 16 and up only

(There will be an additional $5 fee for late registration. You must register for each class you want to take by the due date. Drop in registration in NOT accepted. )

COOPERATIVE Ropes Course

Prepare to climb to new heights, make new friends, learn the dynamics of teamwork, and laugh a lot.  This program focuses on problem solving, low & high elements.  Helmets and harnesses are included.

POETRY CLASS

Let out the inner poet in you.  We will read it, write it, listen to it and watch poetic reading on videos. There will also be a guest poet, Ron Jones, for one class.

R.E.L.A.X. Your Way!

Recreate, Educate, Leisurely Activate & X-perience! We bring you this new approach to recreation and leisure.  This is a one-on-one private class to explore the realms of your interests.  You decide what you would like to do, and we will build a program together.  If you like fitness, we will set goals and focus on health & fitness.  If you enjoy any area of art, we will create an art program just for you.  The sky is the limit! This is your time with a certified therapeutic recreation specialist.
6 sessions-45 mins. each  or 5 sessions-1hour each

Munch on Lunch with:  Where in the world is the Garden Gnome?

Why not spend your lunch break picnicking with friends in beautiful parks in Lakewood while learning about the garden gnome’s whereabouts. The Garden Gnome moves around each week to a landmark location in the United States.  Each week you will discover a new place, and then take pictures of the gnome in Lakewood parks.  Transportation from your home or work is included.  Its summer time and there is no reason to be spending time inside!
You must live or work in Lakewood.  A picnic lunch is provided.

Summer Getaways
Have we got some exciting things for you to do this Summer. Come join your friends for our summer getaways. AGES 16 AND OVER for all getaways.  All registrations are due, paid in full by the date listed (NO EXCEPTIONS). Please use the RISE Above! La Piazza dell’Arte: Art in the Piazza
If you can’t get to Italy, why not have Italy brought to Denver.

Take A Hike To Pearl

This program will take us through the woods to a beautiful view of mountain ranges on one side and beautiful boulders on the other side.  This trek will be followed by a delicious lunch and stroll along Pearl Street in downtown Boulder.  This hike is inclusive of all levels. Lunch is included.

GOLF

Golf lessons on Thursday with practices on Fridays for people with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Golf outing time to be announced during class. Limit 10 golfers.
Ages: 8 and up (registrations accepted until full)
Thursday & Friday, June 14 & 15, June 21 & 22 with golf outing on a Sunday TBA.

ADAPTIVE WATER SKIING/TUBING

Come learn how to water ski or tube at Sloan’s Lake.  All adaptive equipment is provided.  Program is limited to 4 participants per day.  Come for one or all of the sessions. Participants MUST be able to roll from stomach to back independently in the water with a lifejacket on to participate.  Water test will be given at site.  Participants must complete liability release paper work which will be mailed upon registration. Please bring your own sack lunch, water, towel & sunscreen.

UNIFIED SOFTBALL LEAGUE:
Come join the fun with softball.  Unified and special populations leagues are available. Practices begin in May at Lakewood Park.  Softball League begins Friday, June 8 at Lakewood & Addenbrooke Parks.  Call 303-987-4806 for more information and to register to be on a team.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CAMP FOR YOUTH:
Youth Ages 10-20 wanting to play basketball and learn skills. Must be able to catch a ball and be independent with wheelchair mobility. For youth with physical disabilities.

CAMPS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

CAMP PAHA:
Camp Paha is full for all age groups, however; we are accepting registrations for the waitlist. Camp Paha is a day camp for youth and young adults with disabilities.  Camp Paha offers a variety of camp activities including arts & crafts, nature activities, sports, games, swimming, drama, music, field trips and fun.  Camp Paha offers safe, fun, quality programs for all functioning levels.  Campers must be able to work and play in a 3:1 camper to staff ratio.
Ages: Children 6 – 14 & Young Adults 15-25. 
9 am – 5 pm, Monday - Friday, June 16 - August 1

ADAM’S CAMP:
Intensive therapy programs for children with developmental disabilities ages 1-18 and their families year round.  Four different summer camps will be offered: Early Start Camp, Mountain Therapy Program, Trailblazer Camp, “I CAN” Camp, and Teen Camp. COLORADO LION’S CAMP:
The Colorado Lions Camp has a goal to seek out every individual who is eligible to attend our camp and give them the opportunity to experience the joy of a safe, therapeutic atmosphere that will aid in self growth and confidence towards others.  For campers ages 8 through adult. EASTER SEALS COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN VILLAGE:
Children and adults with disabilities have the opportunity to build self-esteem and achieve independence during one week residential sessions beginning in June.   Camp will run for 10 weeks through mid-August with each week focusing on a different adventure or disability.  Activities include athletics, crafts, swimming animals, horses and challenge activities. WHEELCHAIR SPORTS CAMP:
For individuals who use wheelchairs grades 1-12.  June 9-13, 2008.  Located at Aurora Central High School. Sports include: archery, hand cycling, track and field, basketball, tennis, hockey, swimming, power soccer, softball, rugby, and sailing. CAMP NUHOP:

THE LEARNING CAMP:

IN MEMORY
It is with a sad heart that we share the loss of two Camp Paha campers who both died in February.  Jeff Wolf & Matthew Marks.  They will both be missed. 

RISE ABOVE! POLICIES & PROCEDURES

ACTIVITY POLICY

  • Attendance at any activity means participation in the activity.
  • The New Client Assessment form must be completed by participants new to the RISE Above program.
  • A picture ID with name, address, and phone number is required for each participant attending an activity over 4 hours in length. Failure to provide a picture ID will result in the participant being unable to participate in the activity.
  • There must be a minimum of five participants for any activity.  If there are less than five participants registered for the activity by the deadline date, the activity will be canceled with a full refund.  If you are registered for an activity that cancels, you will be notified by phone.

BEHAVIOR POLICY
Appropriate social behavior is important.  If a participant’s behavior is detrimental to the group, the participant may be requested to withdraw from the activity, and the balance of the activity fee will be refunded. Inappropriate social behaviors (physical abuse to others, self-abuse, loud noises, refusal to participate) will result in the immediate removal of the participant by the caregiver

If the participant needs one-on-one supervision because of ability or behavior, registration will depend on the availability of a suitable volunteer.  Friends of family members who volunteer do not pay for themselves in the class, but may be asked to pay a fee for any extra supplies that are used. Anyone needing assistance with toileting, feeding, medications or dressing will be required to have an assistant present at the activity.  Please check with the coordinator of the program to determine if this policy pertains to your group.

INCLUSION OPPORTUNITIES
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to participate in the general recreation classes offered by the City of Lakewood.  If you are interested in registering for a general recreation class and would like assistance or need adaptations to participate, please call Jo at 303-987-4866 or Rachel at 303-987-4868.   TDD (Telephone Device for the Deaf) 303-987-4862.

LATE FEE POLICY:
For all participants, parents, guardians, and care givers: Please remember that a $10.00 late fee for each fifteen minutes after the designated pick up time will be charged for late pick ups from RISE Above! Program activities.  This includes but is not limited to dances, getaways, special events, and classes.  Alternate transportation (RTD, Access-A-Ride, taxi, other) must be discussed with the coordinator at the beginning of the activity. Thank you.

REFUND POLICY
In order to receive a refund for an activity you MUST call 24 hours in advance to cancel.  If you fail to call and cancel, no refund will be issued, NO EXCEPTIONS.
