About Us
Lakewood’s
Department of Information Technology is a relatively new department
compared to our other departments at the City. The Information Technology
Department (IT), formerly known as Management Information Systems
(MIS), was previously a division of the City Manager’s Office
reporting to the Deputy City Manager. However, with the huge tasks
to analyze and secure the City’s million plus lines of code
and data before the Y2K deadline in 1999, the decision to departmentalize
IT emerged out of necessity. In 1998, Boris Naschansky, with many
years of experience in the technology and engineering field, joined
Lakewood as the IT Director. Mr. Naschansky inherited a staff of
12 employees supporting the City’s programming, network and
telecommunications needs. During the Y2K transition, Geographic
Information Systems joined the IT team. Shortly thereafter, Director
Naschansky restructured the entire department into three divisions,
Network Services, Software Services and Public Safety Systems. In
2006, Public Safety System was reorganized into the Business System
Services, encompassing Police systems, Finance and Human Resource
programs. Each division is under the direction of a division manager.
The
City's IT Department has made giant leaps to bridge the gap between
20-year old technology with up-to-date services in programming and
network design. The IT team is highly goal oriented when it comes
to managing tax dollars and providing sufficient and manageable
services for employees and Lakewood citizens. We welcome you to
peruse our site for more information on the Department of Information
Technology.
