With Japanese drums at the foundation of its world fusion mix, Ōn Ensemble takes the ancient instruments of taiko into new realms. Infusing the powerful rhythms of ensemble Japanese drumming with elements of hip-hop, rock and electronica, Ōn Ensemble’s unique sound has been praised as “completely original and brilliantly conceived.” The Ensemble’s founding members Shoji Kameda and Masato Baba are each recognized as leaders in the drumming world, having been featured in the music of the hit TV show Heroes, in the David Mamet movie Redbelt and performing alongside Stevie Wonder at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Don’t miss this high-energy evening of traditional and contemporary musical exploration!

Adonis Puentes and the Voice of Cuba Orchestra

Jason Petty: Hank and my Honky Tonk Heroes

Following a sold-out run starring in Hank Williams: Lost Highway at Little Shubert Theater in New York, Jason Petty brings his honky-tonk act to Lakewood, where audiences will surely be astounded by Petty’s amazing voice and uncanny portrayal of Hank Williams. This veteran actor and singer has performed all over the world and began portraying Williams in 1996 at the world famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Since that day, Petty’s Hank train has not stopped rolling. Enjoy a night tapping your toes and singing along to all of your favorite “Honky Tonk Heroes.”

ODC Dance: boulders and bones

Returning to Lakewood for its third appearance, ODC is a groundbreaking contemporary dance ensemble known for its athleticism, passion and intellectual depth, presenting innovative, fearless works of modern dance. In boulders and bones, choreography by ODC founders Brenda Way and KT Nelson and time-lapse video projections of work by sculptor Andy Goldsworthy marry in a stunning love letter to our natural surroundings.  The entire work is set to Zoë Keating’s score, whose cello and foot-controlled laptop create haunting, repetitive fragments of sound — layered electronically to sound like an ever-growing orchestra of cellos. Called a “colossal triumph of the imagination,” boulders and bones is a visual feast for both fans and those new to dance.

New Directions Veterans Choir

Celebrate Armed Forces Day with New Directions Veterans Choir, an award-winning a cappella group that sings rousing renditions of doo-wop, soul, traditional gospel and popular music. The choir consists of men and women who have proudly served in the United States military and then became homeless. The New Directions facility gave them hope, direction and an outlet in which to share their talents. They have been featured on America’s Got Talent, NBC Nightly News and E! Entertainment Television; they also performed at the Democratic National Convention and for members of the United State Congress. This uplifting group puts on a show that all ages will enjoy!
