FREE Community celebration marking the grand opening of Carmody Park’s new universal playground
While the new playground at Carmody Park is already open and busy with residents of all ages, the community will take a moment to come together and celebrate this great addition to the park system with a grand opening celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 28 at the park located at 2200 S. Kipling St.
At this free event, residents can get a workout at the Outdoor Fitness Zone in partnership with Centura Health under the guidance of a personal trainer, take an outdoor Zumba class, play lawn games and enjoy the new playground. Residents can purchase a meal deal from the Alameda West Kiwanis Club for $2.50 with proceeds benefiting the new nature playground at Bear Creek Lake Park. Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul, members of City Council and funders of the project will officially open the site.
The improvements are funded in part by Jefferson County Open Space, Great Outdoors Colorado, Colorado Lottery and Centura Health. Lakewood’s first universal playground is designed so that residents of all ages and abilities can play together. The Carmody Park Outdoor Fitness Zone in partnership with Centura Health provides an opportunity for visitors age 14 and up to get a free, full body workout while in close proximity and view of the playground. The year-round, heated restroom facility includes family restrooms with adult-sized changing tables to provide visitors of all abilities and their caregivers convenient bathroom access. A multisport court encourages all types of play. The expanded parking lot provides ample drop-off and pickup options for both the park and recreation center.
