July 11, 2012
On Friday July 13, 2012, the Lakewood Police Department, The Colorado State Patrol, with the assistance of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), will be conducting two DUI checkpoints in the City of Lakewood. Statistics indicate that a number of DUI arrests in Lakewood occur in the general vicinity of this location. There have also been serious traffic accidents that were alcohol related in this general area.
The checkpoints will take place in the late night hours when a high percentage of all DUI arrests take place.
The Lakewood Police Department is committed to reducing the number of drunk drivers and alcohol related accidents in the City of Lakewood.
“We want people to drive responsibly. We are committed to serving the public and to making our roadways safer,” said Chief Kevin Paletta.
The approximate location of the first checkpoint is near Jewell and Garrison and the second will be near Wadsworth and Kentucky. The checkpoints are a part of a statewide high-visibility campaign known as “The 100 Days of Heat.”
