Barking Dogs?
Report them online

The Lakewood Police Department Animal Control Section provides enforcement of animal laws,
as well as education on animal-related issues and problem wildlife.

Please call Animal Control if:

  • You are bitten by an animal or have in your possession an animal that has bitten someone.
  • You see a sick or injured animal, an animal needing assistance or a dead animal.
  • You encounter an animal that is aggressive toward people or other animals.
  • You suspect there is animal cruelty or neglect occurring. Examples of this may include lack of
food, water, adequate shelter or veterinary care.
  • You suspect an animal has been abandoned.
  • You see a dog or any livestock running loose.

What are the City's regulations for animal owners?

  • The City of Lakewood requires a current rabies tag to be worn by dogs at all times, and pets also must wear pet ID tags with name, address and phone number.
  • Any dog off its owner’s property must be leashed.
  • The total number of household pets is limited to five per household, with no more than three animals of the same species. Servant animals are allowed in addition to household pets.

You can now report Barking Dogs online.

Is there an animal shelter?

Table Mountain Animal Center (Click for current hours of operation)

Table Mountain serves as the shelter for all of Jefferson County. If you have lost or found a pet, call the Center. You may phone or visit the shelter to see if your pet has been recovered. Personnel at the shelter can also direct you to other helpful agencies. The more identification your pet wears (collar with rabies and I.D. tag), the better your chances are of finding your pet.
