Sector Liaison Unit The Lakewood Police Department's Sector Liaison Unit is a team that consists of selected police agents who use community crime prevention tools, community resource referrals and enforcement action to address specific problems. Sector Liaison Agents are an integral part of a major change in the Lakewood Police Department. Beginning in January 2003, the department shifted to a new way of operating called Sector Based Policing. Agents throughout the city are now assigned to a specific area of Lakewood on a long-term basis. The goal of this new way of operating is to create a better partnership between Lakewood Police and residents. By patrolling the same area of the city and making contact with community groups, police agents are expected to learn what problems a neighborhood faces. There also will be more opportunities for you to get to know the police agents in your neighborhood and for them to know you. Sector Liaison Agents are on the forefront
of this effort. They report directly to the commanders for each sector.
They are charged with initiating activities that foster a link between
the community and the Police Department. They also facilitate programs
that allow the Police Department and community members to solve mutual
problems. To

The unit also offers mediation services to address neighborhood disputes. For further information on this team, call 303-987-7105.
