New Hospital Breaks Ground

The release of more than a dozen doves into a clear Lakewood sky in October capped the ceremonial groundbreaking for St. Anthony West Hospital.

Several former patients of St. Anthony Central sent the birds into flight from the land where the new hospital will rise. The first phase of the hospital is expected to open in late 2009 or mid-2010. The address for the new hospital will be 11600 W. Second Place, west of the Denver Federal Center.

St. Anthony bought 50 acres of land that was formerly part of the Federal Center, and the Regional Transportation District purchased 15 adjacent acres, also formerly on the center, for a bus and light rail station for the West Corridor light rail.
