UPDATE:
Self-Inflicted Wound Likely Killed Man in Police Shooting

March 17, 2007:
An autopsy performed yesterday on a man who was shot by Lakewood agents on Tuesday, lists the official cause of death as a suicide.

27-year-old Andrew Constable was shot by agents after they responded to investigate a domestic dispute in the 3200 block of South Indiana Street. A female caller told police that she and Constable had been arguing that morning and that he had armed himself with a handgun.

When agents arrived on scene, Constable confronted them with the weapon and fired at least one time at the agents. Constable was hit at least once, when both agents retuned fire. Immediately after he was shot, both agents and witnesses in the area saw Constable put the weapon to his head and fire once.

The report from the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, indicates that the wound Constable sustained from being shot by the agents was likely survivable. It further concludes that the self-inflicted gunshot to his head was the cause of death.

The Jefferson County Shoot Team continues to investigate the shooting and will submit a final report to the district attorney's office for review.
