January 25, 2008 -- Lakewood police have identified both the male and female who were arrested yesterday following a four-hour standoff in which the female barricaded herself in a motorhome. The incident occurred at 20th Avenue & Kipling St. when police located a vehicle associated with the couple that was wanted in connection with at least two metro area bank robberies. 27-year-old Patrick A. McCuaig was arrested after a brief struggle with police. 24 year-old Jessica Garrett was arrested after barricading herself in the motorhome for over three hours. A police negotiator was eventually successful in talking Garrett into surrendering. During the standoff, police fired at Garrett when she pointed a weapon at them through the window of the motorhome. Initially it was unknown whether or not Garrett had been hit by any of the gunfire. However, after being taken into custody it was discovered that she had indeed sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her arm. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both parties face multiple charges including but not limited to felony menacing and second-degree assault on a peace officer. Earlier news items follow Female Taken Into Custody After Standoff January 24, 2008 -- Lakewood police have taken a 24-year-old female into custody after a mid-day standoff that lasted over four hours in the area of 20th Avenue & Kipling today. At about 9am, Lakewood agents spotted a vehicle that law enforcement agencies had been asked to watch for. The vehicle was hooked to the rear of a motorhome and was associated with individuals who were suspected of at least two metro area bank robberies The female and her 27-year-old husband were inside the motorhome. Lakewood agents contacted the male and after a brief struggle took him into custody. One officer was treated for minor injuries that were the result of the struggle. The female refused to come out of the motorhome and several minutes later pointed a handgun at officers. At least two officers fired at the female who remained in the motorhome for the next 3-and-one-half hours. A police negotiator was able to established contact with the female by phone and eventually convinced her to surrender shortly after 1pm. Both parties will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail with numerous charges to be determined after additional investigation is completed.
