Lakewood Street Lighting Standards
The safety of the traveling public is the City's primary objective when installing street lights. The 2003 Budget for Street Lighting in the City of Lakewood is $1.5 million. As a matter of policy, streetlights are installed at all intersections and continuously at standard spacing along arterial and collector streets for safety and convenience of all motorists.

Arterials: Lighting units (400 watt) along arterials are spaced at a minimum of 150' on alternating sides of the street. All intersections are provided with street lighting.

Collectors: Lighting units (250 watt) along collectors are spaced at a minimum of 250' on alternating sides of the street. All intersections are provided with street lighting.

Locals: The developer for new developments zoned Residential or like zoned Planned Developments shall install curb or driveway lighting on a photocell for each property instead of streetlights.

Street lighting units along existing local streets will be installed only upon petition of a majority of the adjacent property owners and when the City determines there is a traffic hazard. The City will not install private property lighting.

Private area lighting can be purchased from Xcel Energy. A City permit may be required. If you would like more information on area lighting please contact your local customer service representative at Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-4999.

To Report A Street Light Outage

Please contact Traffic Engineering at 303-987-7980 and provide the following information: What street is the light on (Please indicate the nearest house number), Is there a direction to the street name? (i.e. West 7th or East 7th), What is the nearest cross street?, Light Location: Corner / Mid-block / Parking Lot / Alley, If it is a corner light, which corner is it located on? (i.e. NW,SE, NE, SW) In addition, most street lights will have an Xcel Facility Tag, like the one pictured at the right, on the pole. Providing these numbers when reporting an outage is the best way to insure that Xcel will locate the problem quickly.
