Can You Get a Speed Hump Installed on Your Street?

Speed hump installations are a petition process. Please note that several traffic criteria (including street classification, roadway grade, traffic volumes and traffic speeds) need to be met. The actual installation time frame will be dependent upon the City's construction schedule and may occur in the following calendar year. You can obtain a copy of the City's Speed Hump Policy (PDF format 2.06 kb) as well as some "Pros and Cons" (PDF format 154 kb) of speed humps.

**Note:** The cost of the installation of a speed hump is shared on a 50/50 basis with one-half the cost paid for by the City of Lakewood and one-half the cost paid for by households in the defined block. A fixed cost is established yearly by the City that includes the cost of labor and materials to install the speed hump and related signs and pavement markings.

After reviewing the Speed Hump Policy and Pros and Cons, if you would like to pursue a speed hump installation, please contact this office in writing at City of Lakewood, Traffic Engineering Division, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, CO 80226 or you may click Request Speed Hump online form to submit your request directly to us. If you have any problems with this form, or need further assistance, please contact Jill Mitchell @ 303-987-7980 or via e-mail at jilmit@lakewood.org. You may also print, fill out and fax this form to Jill Mitchell at 303-987-9452.

How do I get a Speed Hump removed?

The same petition and approval procedures shall be followed that are identical to installation procedures - see the City's Speed Hump Policy under Removal Request.

If the removal process is approved by households on the street block that was originally defined for installation, the households must bear the entire cost of removal which is 100% of the cost determined for installation for the current year. If the street is scheduled to be resurfaced during the construction season following approval, the speed hump will be removed at City cost.
