General Information:
The City of Lakewood Stormwater Management Utility maintains the public stormwater drainage system that consists of underground storm lines and open ditches.

Residents are urged not to dispose of branches, leaves or grass clippings into open drainage systems or to place any debris in a location that would impede the flow of water in the system. Such action may result in serious flooding.

In the event of flooding due to a blockage of the storm drainage system, residents may call between the hours of 7 am and 3:30 pm at 303-987-7950. In the event of a flooding emergency at any time, please call Lakewood Police Dispatch at 303-987-7111.

Improvements to reduce flood hazards and protect lives and property are being made since the City of Lakewood's Stormwater Management Utility began operations in January 2000.

Check the Stormwater Management Utility Report for a complete look (including photos) at completed projects and those planned for the future.

If all the City's drainage facilities were connected end-to-end, they would extend from Lakewood to Grand Junction. The Stormwater Management Utility maintains the gulches, roadside ditches, storm drains and inlets that collect and control stormwater runoff. The Utility also constructs improvements to the stormwater system. The improvements reduce the potential for property damage and loss of life. Some improvements are designed to eliminate localized problems such as winter ice build-up caused by poorly draining areas. Finally, the federal government has imposed pollution-control requirements that the Stormwater Management Utility complies with to improve the quality of stormwater runoff.
