Family Concert – The Animated Orchestra
The Animated Orchestra tells the story of a cartoon performed at a symphony concert. The film, however, was sent to the wrong address; the narrator describes the scenes while the audience imagines the missing cartoon.
The hero of the cartoon is a playful and curious ferret. The setting is an instrument repair shop owned and operated by a sleepy older gentleman who lives above the shop. The ferret, who inadvertently sneaks into the shop late one night, discovers that the shop is a ferret paradise. The story moves beyond the shop as the audience, orchestra and conductor engage in zany theatrics.

At the dawn of a new era, everything is changing and anything is possible. Set in the melting pot of New York City, Ragtime weaves together the tale of three families struggling to pursue the American dream. The score, as diverse as the stories themselves, moves from the rhythms of Harlem to the klezmer of the Lower East Side, incorporating bold brass band marches and delicate waltzes in-between. A timeless and powerful portrait of America, Ragtime has been inspiring audiences all over the world for more than 25 years.

In boulders and bones, choreography by ODC founders Brenda Way and KT Nelson and time-lapse video projections of work by sculptor Andy Goldsworthy marry in a stunning love letter to our natural surroundings.  The entire work is set to Zoë Keating’s score, whose cello and foot-controlled laptop create haunting, repetitive fragments of sound — layered electronically to sound like an ever-growing orchestra of cellos. Called a “colossal triumph of the imagination,” boulders and bones is a visual feast for both fans and those new to dance.
