The City of Lakewood received a grant from Jefferson County Open Space to fund half of the purchase of 36.9 acres of property owned by Jefferson County Road and Bridge, located at 14601 W. Hampden Ave., directly east of Big Soda Lake in Bear Creek Lake Park.

The Community Resources Department has been looking for opportunities to expand Bear Creek Lake Park and preserve the park for future generations. This highly visible location next to Big Soda Lake presents an opportunity to introduce additional passive recreation, trails and potentially expand the very popular campground within the park.  Other parcels in the vicinity are privately owned.

Site planning will occur with a future master planning effort for Bear Creek Lake Park, with the plan currently funded in 2023. On-going maintenance will be similar to other passive, open space areas.
