A strength training class takes place in Carmody Rec Center.

Lakewood Recreation offers a range of general admission fitness classes, which are included in the cost of recreation center admission and facility passes. View admission fees and membership details at Lakewood.org/RecAdmission.

Class Descriptions

The following classes are all ages unless marked specifically.

Bootcamp

This class is a full body workout focused on strengthening and toning and is designed to offer cardio endurance along with occasional HIIT training to give participants a challenging but fun workout. Build athleticism using resistance or body weight to increase fitness, strength & balance.

Power Cycle

Feed off the incredible energy in the room with a combination of endurance and strength building intervals. With a mix of fast sprints and heavy climbs all timed to the beat of the music, you’ll be glad you came and ready to come back for more!

Pure Cycle

Take your ride indoors as an instructor guides you on an all-terrain journey that will get your heart pumping and challenge you to give a little more. The focus is on proper cycle technique, body alignment, and cardio drills.

Cycle and Strength

This 60-minute, high energy workout is for everyone! Alternate between the bike and circuit-style weights to get an all-around full body workout! Our Cycle and Strength combination includes songs off the bike with a specific focus on a series of both strength training and cardio full body movements that’ll have you sweating and your muscles burning.

Cycle and Yoga

Try this new fusion class out! You’ll cycle through a series of sprints and hill climbs to upbeat music. Then you’ll bring it off-bike to compliment your hard work on the bike and focus on flexibility and strength through traditional yoga moves.

LaBlast

LaBlast is a dance fitness program based on ballroom dances you see on Dancing with the Stars. It is partner-free, includes all components of fitness, and uses music from every era & genre. You choose your own intensity by adding optional plyometric movements, light weights, heavy weights, or simply keeping your workout low impact. 

Reb3l Groove

REB3L® Groove fuses hard hitting choreography with HIIT mechanics and powerful music, resulting in a high intensity, bootcamp style dance fitness format. All fitness levels are welcome, no dance experience is needed.

Reb3l Strength

REB3L® STRENGTH incorporates muscle toning movement to energizing music & choreography. It creates sculpted bodies and builds physical strength using body weight, minimal equipment, and low impact/high repetition training. All fitness levels.

Zumba

Zumba is a fun and high energy choreographed workout class that incorporates dance moves to target all muscle groups. Each workout mixes low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. It combines all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility and boosted energy!

Active Adult (55+)

Coordination and Balance

This class will assist older adults by improving mobility and balance. Participants will engage in progressive exercises that will challenge strength and improve stability. Individually paced and taught by a certified balance instructor. Class is free for all SilverSneakers, Silver & Fit, and Senior All-Access members.

Essentrics

This dynamic, full-body, low-impact workout will give you a perfect balance of strength and flexibility for a strong and agile body. Essentrics can help you gain strength, eliminate joint pain, improve posture & balance, reduce back pain, and most importantly have fun!

Fit Forever

This low impact class is designed for those 55+ and includes strength, cardio, core work, balance exercises, and stretching. A chair is optional for seated work as well as support for balance exercises.

Senior Strength

Perform low-impact combinations to increase your heart rate through some body weight exercises to improve endurance and strength. Certified instructor leads participants and may use weights, bands and small balls.

SilverSneakers Classic

SilverSneakers Classic is designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement, and to improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels.

Stretch

Designed for active older adults, this class leads you through a complete series of seated and standing stretches. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of movements designed to increase balance, flexibility and range of movement.

Yoga Stretch

This class uses yoga poses designed to be done in a chair or using a chair for balance. Designed for older adults, movements are helpful to improve flexibility and balance. Yoga Stretch classes at Clements Center may use mats as an option for students.

Aqua Class Descriptions

Aqua Ai Chi

Ai Chi is a contemplative, breath-focused, stretch and strengthening form of exercise that quiets the mind and recharges the spirit and body. Led in soothing warm water at the Lakewood Link Pool.

Aqua Fitness Arthritis

Classes are designed for individuals with arthritis but are open to anyone. Led in shallow, warm water pools, classes focus on improving range of motion for all joints, developing balance and coordination and maintaining independence for daily living.

Aqua Fitness Deep/Shallow Water

Combo Deep Shallow water classes are moderate-impact classes designed for individuals looking for an energizing workout of higher intensity. This class combines exercises and movements found in Shallow Water and Deep Water to offer a blended experience and total body workout.

Aqua Fitness Deep Water

These no-impact classes are designed for individuals comfortable in the deep end. Great for those who can not tolerate the “bounce” of Shallow, use the waters resistance to build strength and cardio endurance.

Aqua Fitness Shallow Water

Shallow water classes are moderate-impact classes designed for individuals looking for an energizing workout of higher intensity utilizing fun tools and the water’s resistance.

Aqua Fitness Zumba

Zumba in the water! An intermediate fitness level is recommended for this energetic dance-based aqua class.
