Community Information

Ideally situated between downtown Denver and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Lakewood is Colorado’s fifth largest city. We are part of Jefferson County, a hub for new energy and technology companies. Lakewood has more than 152,000 residents and covers approximately 44 square miles. Surrounded by several leading universities and research facilities, Lakewood has one of the most highly educated work forces in the country, with 36% of our residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher.

The city has dedicated more than 7,000 acres to parks and open space, with approximately 240 miles of biking, hiking, horse-riding trails and shared-use paths. We are a community with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and thriving small businesses: 87% of our businesses have fewer than 20 employees. We are also the location of choice for corporations such as Terumo BCT, HomeAdvisor, The Integer Group, Kinder Morgan, Abengoa Solar and many more. Lakewood is also home to more than 8,000 federal employees and has the largest concentration of federal agencies outside of Washington D.C. We celebrate our great cultural diversity and have recently been awarded the prestigious national All-America City Award in 2011 and again in 2016 and the first-ever All-America City Need Diversity Award for our Inclusive Spirit in 2011.
