Lost and Found Pets

A dog in the shelter behind a fence.

Lakewood Animal Control takes all found pets to the Foothills Animal Shelter: Foothills Animal Shelter Lost and Found.  The shelter is located at 580 McIntyre St., Golden, CO 80401.  The shelter serves as the animal impound facility for all jurisdictions in Jefferson County.

If you have lost a pet, it's best to visit the shelter facility to see if your animal has been taken there, either by Animal Control or a private party.  You can also file a lost pet report with Lakewood Animal Control.

A word of caution, do not stop looking once you've submitted a lost report.  Breed miss-identification can happen and that adorable white tuft of hair under your pet's right front leg may be missed by the impounding officer.  Go to the shelter and walk through it at least every third day to ensure you are doing everything possible to find your pet. There are instances where a pet is rescued by a motorist and transported outside Jefferson County, so it may have been left at a shelter other than Foothills.

If your dog is located at the shelter, and you have yet to license the animal, you can do so when you are reunited. Please bring certification of current rabies vaccination. It is available through your veterinarian.
