Unlicensed Inoperable Vehicles on Private Property

An inoperable or unlicensed vehicle is one that does not have a current license plate, is not currently capable of being promptly started and driven under its own power, or lacks one of the following items, which is otherwise standard factory equipment:

  • Windshield
  • Side or rear window
  • Door
  • Fender
  • Headlamp
  • Muffler
  • Wheel
  • Inflated tires

The City of Lakewood ordinance allows up to two unlicensed or inoperable vehicles to be parked on a residential property, provided they are parked in the side or rear yard and effectively screened from public view by means of a solid fence or fitted car cover. Car covers must be maintained at all times and cannot be ripped, torn or blowing.

All parking areas are required to be improved surfaces, such as asphalt or gravel.

Unlicensed and inoperable vehicles parked on the street may be reported to the Jefferson County Communications Center Authority at 303-980-7300.
