Annual Street Sweeping

Lakewood’s 2024 street sweeping program is getting underway as the weather permits. Crews complete streets from north to south in Lakewood neighborhoods, and they do not schedule streets to be completed on a set schedule. This sweeping helps remove salt applied during the winter and loose dirt and debris from the road. Sweeping helps reduce the brown cloud effect created by traffic to aid in improving the metro area’s air quality. It also keeps the city’s stormwater drainage system clean and creates a healthier environment for residents and wildlife.

Additional information

  • Residents don’t have to move cars from the street.
  • Trash cans can be placed in the street, but please do not sweep trash or debris into the street because this can cause damage to the street sweepers and slow the street cleaning effort.
  • There are several factors that make it difficult to provide a street sweeping schedule because these same crews must respond to rain, snow and ice events, equipment breakdowns and emergencies, which diverts from street sweeping efforts. The city is working to create a new way for handling street sweeping so residents can be informed of when crews will be in their area, so stay tuned.
