Severe Weather Shelter
Lakewood's Severe Weather Shelter status: Closed
Severe Weather Shelter Activations
The City of Lakewood, in partnership with community-based partners, may activate overnight severe weather sheltering at the City’s Navigation Center, 8000 W. Colfax, when weather conditions pose increased risk to the health and safety of vulnerable residents. City of Lakewood will consult the National Weather Service for two thresholds that may activate severe weather shelter:
- Overnight low temperatures are forecast to be 32° Fahrenheit or lower AND arrive with active, accumulating snowfall -OR-
- Overnight low temperatures are forecast to be 20° Fahrenheit or lower WITH or WITHOUT active snowfall
Registration or referral are not required for shelter services and service animals/pets may be accommodated if they do not disrupt the comfort or safety of other guests. In addition to operating Lakewood's Severe Weather Activation, the city works with regional partners to provide access to hotel/motel vouchers or other shelter options. Hotel/motel resources are provided to manage the capacity of Lakewood’s Severe Weather Activation and accommodate unique circumstances and are not guaranteed upon request.
Please continue to check back for Lakewood's Severe Weather Shelter activation status as this website will be updated within 24 hours of activation.
