An estimated 35% of all landfill waste in Colorado comes from construction and demolition activities. However, many of these materials can be recycled or reused, adding to our economy and reducing our environmental impact. The city of Lakewood Building Code requires certain construction and demolition projects to recycle specific materials.
New buildings, additions, or remodels with a total interior space over 2,500 square feet and new developments with multiple buildings with a combined total interior space over 5,000 square feet must recycle:
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Untreated wood
- Metal
- Cardboard
Demolition projects must recycle:
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Metal
- Where possible, all remaining materials, such as doors, windows, cabinets, and fixtures
